Introduction

Welcome to Socratic Reasoning , the fourth course in BRI’s online program, Introduction to Socratic Pedagogy!

In this course, you will examine how to help students build the essential reasoning and questioning skills necessary for a student driven seminar. You will deconstruct student exemplars, providing feedback and planning instructional steps to help students further develop their skills. Following these activities, you will create an exemplar in preparation for a seminar and reflect on how building reasoning and questioning skills prepare students for self-governance.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Deconstruct learner reasoning output and identify instructional plans for developing reasoning skills.
  • Deconstruct learner question output and identify instructional plans for developing questioning skills.
  • Create a student exemplar response to support providing learner feedback and reasoning skills.
  • Reflect on how reasoning skills support education for self-governance.
