Module Overview

Module Description

In this module, you will examine how the national government has reacted when public safety and happiness are threatened by external or internal sources. You will then explore the events surrounding President Abraham Lincoln’s suspension of habeas corpus, assessing the constitutionality of his actions. After reviewing materials from the lesson about President Lincoln, you will assess additional lesson plans addressing the ways presidents have interpreted their powers in times of war and the implications on civil liberties.

As you work through the module, consider how each activity, reading, and the lesson as a whole help incorporate constitutional principles and civic virtues for an education for self-governance.

Throughout this module you will complete quizzes and other checks to assess your basic understanding of key terms and concepts developed throughout the module. At the end of the module you will complete reflection questions that will assess your internalization of the content and its transferability to the classroom.
